Protect the Sanctity of Life

As a Real Republican, I will uphold the Texas Republican Party Platform, including plank 195, which reads:

"We urge the Texas Legislature to enact legislation to abolish abortion by immediately securing the right to life and equal protection of the laws to all preborn children from the moment of fertilization and to oppose legislation that discriminates against any preborn children and violates the United States Constitution by denying such persons equal protection of the laws, and to adopt effective tools to ensure the enforcement of our laws to protect life when doctors or district attorneys fail to do so."

The 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees the "Right to Life" and "Equal Protection under the law" for all "persons." The unborn are persons and, as such, have the same right to life as anyone else. This constitutional protection extends to the unborn, as affirmed by the Preamble of the Constitution, which seeks to secure "the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity." By definition, "our Posterity" must include the unborn. For this reason, I will not support any legislation that denies the unborn their "Right to Life" or "Equal Protection."

In contrast, my opponent, Charlie Geren, took actions in 2015 that were contrary to this principle. When Planned Parenthood came to Austin seeking funds for abortions, State Representative Jonathan Stickland posted a sign on his office door identifying himself as a "former fetus." This angered Charlie Geren, who, as reported in the Star-Telegram on March 11, 2015, stormed through the Capitol, tearing down pro-life signs and ripping the sign from Stickland’s door. He then entered Stickland's office, confronting his staff in a fit of rage.
